Its been coming from Long time. But after my second time visit to Kashid and Murud, the blog was due. Wait a second, 3rd time to be precise. Once when I was a Kid, then 3yrs back when I went for our office Team Building and again this year, when me along with my family went to meet my Dads buddy, who stays close to Murud... To be precise Kashid is about 180km from Mumbai.. and abut 25-30 km from the famous Alibaug... The small town is known for its famous coast drive, quite and peaceful beaches, awesome sea food, the Nawabs Haveli (same one used by Ramsay Brothers for their horror movies in 80's) and the Murud fort..
The drive to Kashid is a bit treacherousness up to the point where you get off the NH17, because of traffic. One you leave the NH17 traffic reduces and becomes a rarity when yu cross Alibaug on the way.
The roads are good, along the coast and there's only one thing to do.. Enjoy
and along the way there are a numerous food joints who only serve awesome lip smacking food

hit the roads again, after crossing a small ridge, through the densely forested road, you are welcomed at Kashid. Kashid greets you with an awesome beach, which is clean and not quite sparsely populated. Makes a perfect weekend gateway..

Kashid Beach views

A few km's away from Kashid, is the famous Nawabs haveli. Its the same palace used by the Ramsay Brothers and others to shoot their horror films in early 80's to 90's. It still belongs to the royal family and apparently are willing to sell it for about 25 crores. It would be a steal.. go get it if you can afford it..

tried some fancy shots of the Haveli..

A little ahead of the palace one gets to see the Kassa fort. Its a heritage site but heck no one cares about it. Driving few more km's you reach another beach town Murud. Its awesome. You bet Kashid is nothing in front of Murud. Its better in every respect.
Beach was lively and kids playing cricket as usual.. managed some stunning shots have a look

I couldn't resist taking more shots of the Palace, so drove back. so here are some of the shots

We then drove to the very famous Janjira Fort. It has an very interesting history to it. Originally belonged to the Mughals. Despite their repeated attempts, the Portuguese, the British and the Marathas failed to subdue the Siddi power and take over this fort. All of Shivaji's attempts to capture Janjira fort failed due to one reason or the other. When Sambhaji also failed, he built another island fort, known as Kansa or Padmadurg, just 9km north of Janjira. Picture attached above.
The drive to to Janjira would remind one of the Scottish Highlands especially in monsoon.

Someday I hope you visit this place. Enjoy its beaches, its rich history, its awesome foods and its serenity and calmness. Till then.. keep travelling...

Cheersss..
